Friday tax help returns to the library
It’s that time of year again: tax season. And the library is offering to help residents and patrons as you prepare your paperwork in 2012.
The library has the free, full-service AARP/IRS Volunteer Tax Assistance Program, which gives special attention to seniors and moderate- to low-income households. The library will offer tax preparation and electronic filing of both state and federal taxes each Friday from Feb. 3 through April 13.
The services will be available for patrons from 9:30-1:30 on Fridays. While services are offered for walk-ins, you can make an appointment by calling 203-669-5257.
When the library offered the service for the first time in 2011, almost 100 returns were prepared and filed through the program, which is co-sponsored by the AARP, resulting in more than $50,000 in refunds for local residents. This year, more residents than ever may qualify for tax credits, particularly the newly instated Earned Income Credit for Connecticut.
